Professor Sara Arber

Sara has been pioneering empirical research on the sociology of sleep since 2001. Sara was Principal Investigator on the EU funded 'Women and sleep' project, the ESRC funded 'couples' sleep project', the EU Marie Curie training project and the Cross Council funded SomnIA project.

 

 

Robert Meadows

Rob has been involved in sleep research since 1999. He has particular interests in 'negotiating' sleep, and has published widely on the sociological aspects of couples' sleep. He was co-investigator on the couples sleep project and a senior researcher on the SomnIA project. Rob was a member of the British Sleep Society Executive Committee (2008-2011); having served a previous term between 2003 - 2006. Rob was also Newsletter editor for the British Sleep Society between 2008 and 2011.

Jo Moran-Ellis

Jo is widely known for her work on the sociology of childhood. She developed one of the first courses (in 1993) in the sociology of childhood for final year undergraduates and has continued to develop the course as the field grows. She is currently using that expertise to develop work in children and sleep with colleagues in psychology and biomedical sciences. Along with Rob Meadows, Jo is also exploring self-help books about 'children's sleep'

Susan Venn

Sue was a researcher on the ESRC funded project "Negotiation Sleep: Gender, Age and Social Relationships among Couples" (2003-2006) and a researcher on a four year ESRC funded project looking at sleep in later life (SomnIA). Her work on sociological aspects of sleep has been published widely - and includes papers on snoring, sleep disruption and children's sleep.
